For Easter we went up to upstate New York to visit my grandmother. My grandmother is not well, but that is not what depresses me when I go there.
It is the general depression of the town that lurks around each corner. The pockets of houses that need painting, the run down cars, and the economy that used to be booming and then wasn't.
It's the identical housing developments that have monotone walls and too much space, the clutter that doesn't exist, and at the nursing home, its the residents who have no visitors.
So it's not the being alone, or not going to church on Easter, but the odd combination of being in New York, but not really.
